Online Templates, Tools and Resources

 

Kiva: Zero Interest Capital for Agricultural Innovation is a webinar OEFFA hosted with Reese Neader of Forge Columbus in May 2016 explaining Kiva, the application process, and how OEFFA can act as a loan trustee. Forge Columbus launched Kiva Columbus in July 2016.

 

As the premier farmer source for sustainable agriculture information, ATTRA offers important resources for beginning farmers and ranchers and people who work with them. On their website you can learn about running a farm, transitioning to organic, business management, marketing and much else. They also list a wealth of other resources outside of ATTRA.

The Field Guide to the New American Foodshed, created in partnership between the USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) and the Farm Credit System to better support Young, Beginning and Small farmers offers Case Studies, One Page Business Plans, and a Decision Tree.

AGPLAN, The Agricultural, Fisheries, and Small Business Planning website, helps rural business owners develop a business plan free of charge, through the resources of the Center for Farm Financial Management at the University of Minnesota.

The New Farmer Hub feature of the Northeast Beginning Farmers Project, from Cornell University’s Small Farms Program, offers worksheets and templates embedded in online planning lessons where you can save work in your own online files.

Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture, based in Massachusetts, recently developed a Financial Management 101 Tipsheet Series which is tailored and particularly helpful for small scale diversified producers.

 

Small Businesss Development Centers

 

The Small Business Administration (SBA) in conjunction with the Ohio Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), SCORE, and other local partners offer free or low cost resource training seminars and workshops to enhance the setup and/or growth of your small business concern.

SBDC provide business planning assistance to all types of small businesses. Even if an office does not have agricultural expertise, they can still be of assistance in helping to put your business plan and financials together. These are the links to the Cleveland and Columbus offices.

 

Other Technical Assistance and Resources

 

Ohio Marketing Connections facilitates easy access to direct marketing resources thanks to the contributions of numerous collaborators on the Ohio Direct Marketing Team at OSU.

The Appalachian Center for Economic Networks (ACEnet) provides a general business curriculum, Business Education Support and Training (BEST), as well as helpful worksheets and training materials for small food enterprises.
