The OEFFA Lake Effect chapter will host an outdoor farm tour, with masks and social distancing, at A's and O's Farm in Mentor, OH. The tour will include discussion on what has worked, what has not worked, and what probably doesn't make any economic sense but the farm operators just keep doing anyway. Your thoughts and ideas will be welcomed!
You will see examples of no-till mulch farming, solar water pumping, deer and rabbit pest protection techniques, and maybe share some ideas for pacifying the occasional human pest living next door! The asparagus field hopefully will be in full production by then so you can pick a meal's worth to take home. There will be extra plastic buckets for you to fill with rich, composted wood chips for your garden. All will have the opportunity to stick around and do some hands-on planting of seeds, asparagus roots or perennials, so wear your boots, gloves, and coveralls.
Registration is required using the link at bottom of this page, as each tour size will be limited to ten attendees from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and ten attendees from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
A $10 donation to OEFFA is requested and can be paid at https://www.oeffa.org/donate.php or at the event.
Please refrain from coming to the tour if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19. Visit https://bit.ly/3wnP4AP for health guidance.
Rain date will be April 18; call Tom or Val (see below for contact information) to check in if the weather is questionable.
