This class will walk through post-harvest handling techniques from field to plate for everything from leafy greens to tomatoes. Washing, packing, and storage techniques for wholesale and retail outlets will be covered. FSMA, the Food Safety Modernization Act, will NOT be covered. Topics will include:
1. Best practices for post harvest handling
2. Options for washing, packing, and storage facilities
3. Sizing of bunches, cases, etc. for both wholesale and retail
Taught by Megan Gambrill: Megan managed crop production and organic certification at Turner Farm for five years. She was responsible for the production of over seventy different crops serving CSA, farmers markets, and wholesale outlets, and managed a team of farmers supported by seasonal apprentices who receive in-depth education in production methods and decision-making.
This year she is excited to join the team at Carriage House Farm.
