Planning for Generational Transition, Succession, or Transfer on Your Farm

Do you own a family farm, but are unsure who will be in charge in the next generation? Do you have multiple heirs that disagree about the future of your land? Or perhaps you have no heirs, but want to leave a legacy with your land? Are you renting land, or farming "on the halves" and need help figuring out who will manage the land after you retire?
You are not alone!
Landowners have many options and resources to help facilitate the transition, succession, or transfer of land, and this workshop can get you started down the path!
Learn about:
- Several models of farm succession and transition
- Family communication strategies
- Resources to begin developing your plan
- Professionals and organizations that can assist you with your plans
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to better assess your situation, articulate goals for the future of your land, and develop a transition plan.
Workshop speakers, include:
- Chris Brunyis, with Ross County Extension, and David Marrison, with Ashtabula County Extension, will provide expertise to help farmers navigate the process of communicating and planning land transition, succession, or transfer in order to meet family goals, land management goals, and farming operation goals.
- Benefits consultant TBD, will discuss options for passing farm assets to farm and non-farm heirs and estate planning.
- Don Mayer, an attorney experienced with farm law, will provide alternative options for land and related tax implications.
Cost: $20 per person. Price includes lunch.
This workshop is presented by OEFFA, Tecumseh Land Trust, and Clark State Community College.
